The Make-A-Will and Family Financial Planning Workshop is an annual pro bono event sponsored by LASO and Southwestern Urban Foundation providing wills and other estate planning documents to members of participating churches. Besides the many churches that participate in this event, other participating partners include Concerned Clergy for Spiritual Renewal, Baptist Ministerial Association, Methodist Ministerial Alliance, Association of Black Lawyers, the Schools of Law from Oklahoma and Oklahoma City Universities and a professional financial planning team. It has been noted that 90% of the African American population does not have wills or trusts, nor the routine ability to pass assets down from one generation to the next. The mission of this effort is to assist African American families preserve and build wealth by the preparation of financial planning documents and advice. The services provided to individuals and families at the workshop, in turn benefits the community as a whole.
