Please join us for this acclaimed 2-part training series, designed to improve the cultural understanding of and respectful and effective communication with the Deaf and hard of hearing communities. As a legal provider or a victim assistance program, communication with this community of domestic violence and crime victim survivors is vital because they comprise our clients, co-workers, colleagues, friends, and family. Like many underserved and marginalized communities, Deaf people experience this type of victimization at similar or higher rates. This training will also incorporate trauma and victimization across the lifespan.
The trainer for both sessions will be Brittany Ellenbecker, Manager of the Deaf IGNITE domestic violence program based in Rochester, which is part of Willow Domestic Violence Center. Rochester is home to one of the largest Deaf communities in the country.
ASL interpreters and CART services will be provided for this program.
Continuing Legal Education credits will not be offered for this training series.
Attendance at both sessions is not required; you can attend one or both sessions.
Hosted by Empire Justice Center's Statewide Domestic Violence Task Force and the Crime Victims Legal Network.
