This five-week training is designed as an introductory course on asylum law. It will provide an overview of asylum law and procedures, as well as offer tips on interviewing clients and advocating on their behalf.  This course will provide an in-depth analysis of the various protected grounds and other key issues, including particular social group, the one-year filing deadline and its exceptions, mandatory bars to eligibility, the protection screening process, withholding of removal, and relief under the Convention Against Torture.  The last part of the course will focus on preparing an asylum case from the initial interview through the various stages: the Asylum Office, Immigration Court, Board of Immigration Appeals, and Federal Court. The course starts on September 28, with access to the e-learning course website and Week One assignment. Once you receive your user name and password, you may participate in a variety of activities for self-directed learning, including reading assignments, exercises, and quizzes. The course will be interactive, with opportunities for online discussion among students, and between the students and the instructors.  The course also includes five live webinars conducted on consecutive Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. Eastern starting on Thursday October 5th. Each webinar is recorded and posted on the course website after the webinar is conducted.  Although we encourage participants to attend the live webinars each week, you will be able to listen to a recording of any webinar you are unable to attend whenever you choose to do so.
