WOMEN'S SITES WE LIKE

There are many good websites out there, and a lot address women's issues. Here are a few of the sites we found most useful, informative, and inspirational (in alphabetical order, by the way).

About Face: "promotes positive self-esteem in girls and women of all ages, sizes, races and backgrounds through a spirited approach to media education, outreach and activism."
 

Break the Cycle: A nonprofit organization that seeks to empower young people to create lives free of "dating and domestic" violence.

Girls Incorporated: With its tagline, "Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold," this organization has been helping girls learn real skills, leadership, literacy, self-respect and more for over 140 years.

Family Violence Prevention Fund: For over 20 years, this organization has worked to ensure women and children have the right to a life without violence. This organization was also instrumental in developing the Violence Against Women Act.

Feministing: Funny, smart, and chockablock of good links, irreverant news, and righteous women's info.

The ACLU Women's Rights Project: Founded by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, this campaign seeks to empower poor women, women of color and immigrant women who have been victimized by gender bias and pervasive barriers to equality.

National Women's Law Center: Seeks to protext and advance the progress of women and girls at work, in school and in virtually every aspect of their lives.

Legal Momentum: Formerly the National Organization of Women's Legal Defense and Education Fund, this organization uses the law and litigation to create new and innovative public policy that works to advance the rights of women and girls.

National Alliance to End Sexual Violence: Uses grassroots communication networks to
help work toward a social, political and economic environment where sexual violence no longer exists.

National Center for Victims of Crime:
America's leading resource and advocacy organization for crime victims. In the past twenty years, it has worked with more than 10,000 grassroots organizations and criminal justice agencies serving millions of crime victims.

National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty: Violence against women is a leading cause of homelessness, and this organization serves as the legal arm to end American's homelessness and poverty.

National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence: People in this organization work with both victims and perpetrators--as well as judges, lawyers, doctors, police officers, therapists, and others--to end violence against women.  

National Council of Jewish Women: Inspired by religious values, this organization works for progressive issues, including women's rights.

National Network to End Domestic Violence:
Represents state domestic violence coalitions working to end violence against women.

Sacred Circle, National Resource Center to End Violence Against Native Women: The name of the organization gives you an idea of what it's all about.

Sisters of Color Ending Sexual Assault: A nonprofit led by women of color committed to the
anti-sexual assault movement.

Stop Family Violence: With the large and noble goal of "family peace."
