DIVERSITY IN SCHOOLS

It is important to have a diverse group of students in today's schools. America has come a long way since the segregation of blacks and whites in schools. There is no reason America should take a step backward by allowing schools to be segregated again. Poverty and ethnicity should not influence the kind of education a student receives. Diversity in schools is not only fair, but it will also benefit students.

Every student no matter what their ethnicity or financial situation should be allowed to receive an equal education. Why should some students be given less opportunities? As an African American and Hispanic student, I feel I should be given as good of an education as any other student of a different ethnicity. My dream is to attend college and become a doctor. Should I be given less of a chance to accomplish my dream of helping others because the government felt that due to my race I did not deserve a great education? Every student has a dream, and majority of student's dreams require a good education. It is not fair to take a student's dream away because some people feel their children are superior to others because of their ethnicity or financial status. Every student deserves a great education that will benefit them in the future. Students deserve an education that will give them opportunities to fulfill their dreams and acquire a job that will support them and their families.

Having diverse schools will not only help one ethnic group, but it will benefit all students. After High School, when students enter what everyone calls the "real world," there is not going to be only one specific group of people they will have to work and socialize with. There are going to be different types of people with different backgrounds that they will have to deal with on a regular basis. Working with different types of people is host unavoidable, so why not help prepare students for the future by having diverse schools? Diverse schools teach students how to interact with different people with different backgrounds and experiences. This will benefit every student greatly in the future.

It is beneficial for all students for the schools to be diverse. It will not only benefit them academically, but socially as well. But the most important reason schools should be diverse is because it is unfair to deny a student a better education because of their background or financial situation. Everyone is supposed to be seen as an equal and it should not be any different when it comes to education policies.
