In keeping with the New York County Lawyers Association's mission to provide "free legal services for the indigent, low-income and other persons in need," we invite attorneys to participate in our pro bono projects. We offer a wide variety of meaningful opportunities, and training is provided for each project. Volunteer attorneys must be members of the New York County Lawyers Association and meet additional requirements specific for each project. For certain trainings, CLE credit can be awarded for completing specified pro bono assignments after the training. We encourage you to consider giving your professional expertise and time to one or more of our worthy projects:
- Legal Counseling Project provides phone consultations in the areas of family, employment and landlord/tenant law. No representation of any kind is undertaken. Consultations can be scheduled throughout the week based on volunteer availability.
- Certificates Project provides legal advice on Certificates of Relief from Civil Disabilities and Certificates of Good Conduct to individuals with criminal records, and assistance with applications for eligible individuals.
- Social Security SDNY Project provides representation to individuals whose Social Security Disability benefits have been denied and who have reached the stage of filing civil actions in the United States District Court in the Southern District of New York.
- Manhattan CLARO Project provides limited legal advice to individuals with consumer debt matters in New York County Civil Court.
- State Central Registry Project provides counsel to individuals who seek to amend, seal or expunge indicated reports from the New York State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.
