Our mission at ATASK is to eliminate domestic violence in the Asian communities through community education and service for survivors of abuse. Services include counseling, housing advocacy, legal advocacy, shelter, 24-hour multilingual hotline, English as a second language.
The Asian Shelter and Advocacy Program (ASAP) is the first program of its kind in Massachusetts and only one of few across the United States. ASAP services include New England’s only multilingual emergency shelter, advocacy services, outreach, and education programs for battered Asian adults and their children. Asian immigrant communities face many challenges in adjusting to life in a new country. These difficulties are compounded when an immigrant or refugee is a survivor of domestic violence in an unfamiliar environment. The Asian Shelter and Advocacy Program is often the only opportunity for Asian adults and children to achieve productive and violence-free lives. ASAP Programs and Services, located at three sites, are designed to complement each other, and provide clients with comprehensive care.
The Legal Advocacy and Representation Program provides wide range of free legal to eligible clients. ATASK’s legal team conducts comprehensive intakes and case management, prioritizing legal needs in a safe space specifically designed for Asian survivors. Our Attorneys can help with family and immigration law matters, including document and hearing preparation, representation in family court, humanitarian visa assistance, and immigration petitions before USCIS. Attorneys also provide counseling in poverty law areas, such as public benefits and housing law.
Pro-bono attorneys give legal advice and represent clients without charge, and/or serve as agency attorneys to review contracts. They may also serve on the board of directors.
