The Bronx Defenders

The Bronx Defenders is an innovative public defense organization that provides integrated criminal and civil legal defense and social services to 12,000 people accused of crimes in the Bronx each year. A national leader in the community defender initiative, The Bronx Defenders is dedicated to addressing the underlying issues that lead to involvement with the criminal justice system. Initiatives such as the Civil Action Project, Family Defense Project, Voter Enfranchisement Project and Bronx PrYde provide comprehensive legal services and youth programs to clients and their families to promote successful reentry and mitigate the collateral consequences of criminal proceedings. The office generally uses volunteers to help with litigation in the area of housing, immigration, employment, family law, public benefits, and criminal defense.
