Each year, approximately 75,000 people return to New York City from jail or prison, many to neighborhoods which are disproportionately affected by systemic racism, poverty, and justice system intervention. The challenges associated with reentry from incarceration are well known and include barriers to obtaining employment and housing, insufficient support to achieve education goals, challenges related to family or behavioral health, difficulty adapting to new technologies and other societal changes, and post-traumatic stress disorder related to their incarceration. Reentry support services that meet these needs can be effective at stabilizing justice involved individuals who are returning to their communities, and at helping to reduce reoffending and future justice system involvement.

New York’s private sectors, especially the Legal Services and Financial Services communities, can play a vital role in creating opportunities and finding ways to support successful reentry initiatives. Join us for a discussion and panel presentation concerning the importance of reentry initiatives and to review examples of certain reentry related winning strategies.
