LGBTQ people face a heightened risk of violence compared to non-LGBTQ populations.  Studies have shown a heightened risk of violence among lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) populations. Studies have also shown that transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) people, especially transgender women of color, face significantly higher rates of violence, homelessness and poverty. In 2020, at least 33 TGNC people have been killed by violent means in the US, as reported by the Human Rights Campaign, which makes it the deadliest year on record for transgender people.
This webinar will review key research findings attorneys and advocates should know and highlight the barriers to assistance that LGB and TGNC survivors face, as well as highlight protections that survivors in New York may be able to access.
