Staff Attorney Housing- Staten Island Legal Services
Staten Island Legal Services (across the street from the ferry), is part of Legal Services NYC, the largest provider of free civil legal services in the nation. We are seeking a staff attorney to work in our Housing Unit assisting low-income tenants throughout the borough in avoiding displacement through a range of legal avenues. The attorney will litigate cases in housing court, administrative forums, and other state and federal courts on behalf of people facing eviction, and in affirmative cases challenging landlords, administrative agencies and other actors who threaten Staten Island residents' ability to obtain and retain safe and affordable housing. The work will involve developing expertise in housing court practice, housing programs and subsidies, and public benefits. The attorney will have opportunities to conduct community outreach and to provide trainings to other advocates, tenant associations, community members and community organizations.
Requirements:
Admission to NY Bar;
A demonstrated commitment to working with low-income and diverse communities;
Housing law and litigation experience strongly preferred;
Superb analytical, writing and communication skills;
Excellent organizational skills; and
Fluency in Spanish preferred.
Salary determined by Collective Bargaining Agreement. Excellent benefit package.
