inMotion Training on VAWA self-petitions and battered spouse waivers

Topics:
  • Family/DV
  • Immigration

**Please note that this training is only open to attorneys from inMotion's Corporate Partner law firms.**

Attorneys will be trained to represent immigrant women who are domestic violence victims and who are eligible for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) protections in immigration proceedings. Procedural and substantive aspects of these cases will be discussed in detail. Training manual and sample documents will be provided.

VAWA cases typically consist of two stages: an initial petition on submission and an adjustment interview before an administrative body. Pro bono attorneys handling VAWA cases are required to handle their clients' cases through both phases, as well as the immigration cases for their clients' children who may be living abroad or in the United States.

Attorneys are expected to commit to taking a case pro bono, either individually or with another attorney, if not already handling an immigration case referred by inMotion.
