"A teary eyed Latina woman sat before a judge, explaining the events that led to her arrest on felony aggravated assault charges.

Mirna Leticia Bolvito admitted to plunging a knife into her husband's chest last New Year's Eve, but she said the outburst followed years of abuse by him.

"I was a victim for five years,” she told the judge. “He used to hit me with no mercy. Unfortunately, in my country, to hit a women is acceptable.”"
