"The Daily News/Citizenship NOW! call-in was a great success. The requests for help streamed in — people carrying the dream of becoming a citizen — and we helped them figure out their next steps. We referred thousands to agencies providing free and low-cost advice.
Still, the need for help with citizenship and immigration services continues on. Permanent residents called wanting to become U.S. citizens, but with the election coming, many legal service organizations are booked-up for weeks. You may have a hard time getting an appointment.
If you want to vote in November, but can't afford an attorney and can't find an organization to help you, consider a do-it-yourself approach.
One great self-help service is the free Citizenshipworks program, developed by the Immigration Advocates Network. Prepare your application online in English or in Spanish. If you need help completing the application, Citizenshipworks can help you online or refer you to a partner organization."
