Pro Bono Project and CLE

- Georgia Appleseed (GAA) staff will lead a 1.5 Hr. CLE about the importance of School Climate, effective discipline strategies for keeping children in class and out of the court system, and the role of the Student Attendance and School Climate Committees in those strategies. Attendees will engage in team-building exercises to strengthen GAPABA connections and engagement.
- GAA staff will train volunteer attendees to conduct a pro bono project (expected time commitment of 3-4 hours of individual call time to Georgia Courts) to gather data, and report back to GAA. Two keys to dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline are school climate committees and school-justice partnerships. All school districts are required to have school climate committees. Georgia Appleseed is developing a database to inform the community about the school climate committees and school-justice partnerships in their district. Through this community service event, we will be assisting Georgia Appleseed more quickly identify where there are shortfalls and where there are model programs and bridge communities in need.
