The Safe Center provides representation to victims of Domestic Abuse primarily in the areas of divorce, family law and immigration matters. The Pro Bono Project at The Safe Center will be presenting a seminar entitled “Representing Victims of Domestic Abuse in Divorce Proceedings.”

This training is designed to instruct participants on the mechanics of litigating matrimonial and family law proceedings within the context of an abusive relationship. It will begin with an overview of Domestic Abuse and the services offered by The Safe Center. It will then detail the
steps of a divorce action from commencement to the final resolution. The focus will be the special considerations that must be addressed when representing victims of Domestic Abuse with the safety of clients and their children at the forefront. The special Ethical Rules applicable to Pro Bono representation will also be presented and explained. One of the goals of the training is that attorneys will be prepared to represent victims of Domestic Abuse in matrimonial actions. An equally important goal is that all attendees will be able to recognize abuse and know where to turn for help.
