This free program is (thru 6 pm) for attorneys who now are, or are considering, representing a capital client in habeas proceedings. From 6 pm on, it is also for attorneys who are open to considering handling such a case. The program features nationally recognized death penalty & habeas corpus experts. 

The program will include a review of recent Supreme Court decisions, ethical issues in post-­-conviction claims, & a discussion of emerging issues in capital defense, including the new Supreme Court Glossip v. Gross. There will also be two simultaneous sessions on habeas corpus, one for attorneys new to habeas work & the other for more experienced attorneys.

Shortly after 6 pm,the Norman Redlich Pro Bono award will be presented to Sidley Austin LLP and the Norman Redlich Capital Defense Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Ronald Tabak. Mr. Tabak will briefly discuss his perspectives on pro bono death penalty representation and on capital punishment. The event will conclude with a keynote address (with CLE credit) by the Hon. Jed S. Rakoff, U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of NY, an outspoken and inspirational speaker on issues impacting the U.S. criminal justice system.
