This training will cover the law and procedures governing Access-A-Ride, NYC's paratransit service for individuals with disabilities who are unable to use the subway or bus. Too often, individuals with disabilities face barriers to accessing this important service. Participants will learn the ins and outs of the application and appeal process, including eligibility standards, advocacy tools, and practical tips. Participants will also learn how to appeal suspensions and terminations of service. The training will include a discussion of the Article 78 proceeding as a tool for challenging New York City Transit's determinations in court. Finally, the training will provide an overview of recent affirmative lawsuits brought by people with disabilities who face barriers to accessing Access-A-Ride.
