Attorneys will be trained to represent immigrant women who are domestic violence victims and who are eligible for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) protections in immigration proceedings. Procedural and substantive aspects of these cases will be discussed in detail. Training manual and sample documents will be provided.

VAWA cases typically consist of two stages: an initial petition on submission and an adjustment interview before an administrative body. Pro bono attorneys handling VAWA cases are required to handle their clients' cases through both phases, as well as the immigration cases for their clients' children who may be living abroad or in the United States.

Attorneys are expected to commit to taking a case pro bono, either individually or as part of a team, if not already handling an immigration case referred by Her Justice. Experienced Her Justice staff attorneys mentor and consult with pro bono teams throughout the course of representation.

You must be an attorney at one of the Her Justice Corporate Partner firms in order to participate in this training.

More information and registration is available at Her Justice.
