Understanding School Discipline for Special Education Students
IDEA outlines a number of specific procedures that schools must follow when disciplining students with disabilities, to prevent schools from suspending or expelling students without considering the effects of the student's disability. This session will explains discipline rules, due process and procedural safeguards required under IDEA.

Special Education Rights in Child Care and Early Education
A growing body of research demonstrates the connection between high quality child care and early education settings and future success. This panel will assist practitioners in leveraging the IDEA to assist children with disabilities and their families in obtaining the child care, early education, and after-school care opportunities that they need. Topics will include transition planning between IDEA Part B and Part C programs and services, and application of integration mandates to child care and early education settings.

Getting Needed Services for Students with OHI Under IDEA and Section 504
Children with other health impairments are increasing in numbers and may need a broad array of related services to learn safely and effectively. This session will help advocates identify the services that these children may need and help school districts find effective ways to provide these services. The session will include an overview of OHI and of the interrelationship between IDEA and Section 504, and will discuss needed related services with a focus on students with diabetes in light of the recent California Supreme Court decision on diabetes care in schools.
