Attorneys involved in divorce and bankruptcy proceedings, custody cases, family law cases, and criminal defense cases often work with clients who are in heightened emotional states. They can be depressed, hopeless, and may have lost important social support.

These clients may be at increased risk for violence and suicide, and attorneys are in a position to identify the increased risk and to refer them for specialized interventions. Training key gatekeepers, such as attorneys who come into contact with individuals or families in distress, is a primary strategy for identifying clients at risk of violence and suicide and referring them for evaluation and intervention.

This webinar will teach attorneys the warning signs of suicide, how to recognize these signs in clients and colleagues, and appropriately refer them for help when suicide risk is identified. Additionally, our expert panel will address how Model Rules of Professional Conduct 1.6 and 1.14 affect an attorney's relationship to his client.
