Artist Garland Robinette Paints Special Lady Justice
for Organization's 25th Anniversary Celebration

(New Orleans, LA) - A beautiful and sparkling Lady Justice, named Creole Kali by artist Garland Robinette adorns this year's invitation to the 2011 Justice for All Ball (JFAB) celebrating The Pro Bono Project's 25th Anniversary. The black-tie (optional), fundraising event on Friday, November 4, 2011, begins at 8:00 pm and features headliner Jon Cleary's Philthy Phew (<http://joncleary.com/> http://joncleary.com/) entertaining patrons with a combination of New Orleans funk, classic R&B and tropical rhythms to keep them dancing all night long.

Creole Kali and Lady Justice

Here's what artist, Garland Robinette (<http://www.robinettestudios.com/> http://www.robinettestudios.com/) says about his painting:

Justice is a loaded word. It has to do with what is fair and life isn't fair, as we all know. A court of law is supposed to be the place in our society where a fight can be conducted in a fair manner but unfortunately, most people don't have the resources to even get themselves, or the ones they love, to that level playing field. This is why the work done by The Pro Bono Project is important to me and why the topic of Justice is one we can debate in my Think Tank forever. It's meaning must constantly be explored, interpreted and renewed with creative thought and action. The figure in this painting is full of passion, wielding her sword and her scales like a Creole Kali, the Hindu Deity of creation. Hers isn't a passive or benign form of Justice, but an active and protective one. The beautiful spirit of all New Orleanians, both past and present, is seen in her masked face. She represents the archetype of Justice as I would like to see it in the world. Not one of passivity and stale equilibrium, but one vigilance and creativity. She is one that seeks the truth, fairly until there really is Justice for all.

Donated by the artist, the oil on canvas painting is 4' x 4', and will be auctioned the night of Ball by guest auctioneer, Gambit publisher and attorney, Clancy Dubos. The minimum opening bid will be $5,000.

Local Businesses & Restaurants Support Event

"With Marian and Larry Gibbs (President/CEO Gibbs Construction) serving as Honorary Co-Chairs and Phelps Dunbar attorney, Christopher Ralston chairing the JFAB Committee, the local community has come out in full force once again to support this event," explains Executive Director, Rachel Piercey.

More than 20 restaurants are providing food and beverages for the evening including Andrea's, Atchafalaya, Broussard's, Clancy's, Feelings Cafe, Mike's on the Avenue, NOLA, Palace Café, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and the Audubon Tea Room to name just a few. Raffle items range from getaway weekends and dine-arounds to spa and fitness packages and much more. In addition to Creole Kali, the auction will include a 'Meet the' Press weekend in Washington with tickets to NBC's Meet the Press, CNN's Situation Room and two nights at the Mayflower Hotel, a one day deep sea fishing cruise on the M-V Conspiracy, a 53 foot Hatteras, three-nights and golfing for four at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort, and a Burgundy wine-tasting and lecture for 10 along with many other fabulous items. "For the past 25 years, The Project has served the metro New Orleans community and The Justice For All Ball is one avenue through which The Project raises funds to enable people to rebuild their lives and this community. So often, many of The Project's clients don't have the resources, or even understand that the problem they have requires a legal solution. That's where The Project makes a difference by matching private bar attorneys pro bono with clients in need. Without The Project, so many of the legal issues that continue to impede the return of citizens and the rebuilding of the metro area will continue to be unresolved," says JFAB Committee Chair Chris Ralston.
