The Washington Council of Lawyers is seeking 8-10 volunteer attorneys or law students for our annual Mock Trial Program on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 9:00 - 11:30 AM. This year we are pleased to present the mock trial program to fifth grade students at Wheatley Elementary School, 1299 Neal Avenue NE, Washington, DC. Free parking is available at the school, or transportation will be provided from the nearby New York Avenue metro stop (red line).

The WCL Mock Trial program is a great way to give back to the community. Serving as a volunteer requires only a small time commitment: participation involves reviewing a short packet of materials (12-13 pages) to be provided by WCL before the program, and being at the school for one morning.

On the morning of the Mock Trial, volunteers will receive a brief orientation at the school. We then will lead a short discussion with the students about our criminal justice system and help the students conduct their own mock trial. Last year's "Case of the Missing Bread" and "Case of the Whacking Pocketbook" were tense courtroom dramas! We need attorneys to serve as advisors to the prosecution team, the defense team, and the judge, bailiff and jurors. Volunteer attorneys do not need to be experienced trial attorneys or DC bar members.
