The weak economy has stressed poor families on every front, and they need your help. AVLF's volunteers provide legal assistance in several substantive areas that are critical to the self-sufficiency of low-income people, especially in difficult times. This program will focus on the hot issues in each of these areas: (1) Securing Unpaid Wages, (2) Defending Clients against Debt Lawsuits and (3) Promoting Habitable and Safe Housing and Ensuring Return of Security Deposits for low-income individuals and families. But knowing the law is only half the battle! This program will also help you develop the skills you need to be successful in these cases: Expert practitioners will discuss negotiation and mediation skills, case approach and strategy development and common questions about practicing in the state and magistrate courts.
