The purpose of this training is to provide attorneys with trial skills and techniques to effectively represent survivors of domestic or intimate partner violence in family court proceedings. Trainees will work with a hypothetical fact pattern through every stage of a custody proceeding, from fact investigation to closing argument. Each participant will have the opportunity to practice her/his trial skills in a supportive environment and receive feedback and critique. Working in teams, trainees will represent a party in a mock custody trial, presided over by a real judge, who will rule on objections and evidentiary issues. Following the training, mentoring on future domestic violence cases by an experienced domestic violence attorney will be available.
