This training will be given by law students and Assistant Clinical Professor Sarah Boonin, of Law of Suffolk University Law School. Prof. Boonin is teaching a Health Law Clinic at Suffolk University Law School. The Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code became effective on July 1, 2009. Learn about the new rules, procedures and forms. This basic training will focus on how to bring a Petition for the Guardianship of an Adult in the Probate Court. The training will address guardianship of incapacitated persons that are unable to make or communicate decisions due to a medically diagnosed condition. The training will include instruction on how to complete the petition and accompanying pleadings, waive fees and costs, obtain a medical certificate from the incapacitated person's physician, and how to handle issues of service and the bond. This is an excellent area of practice for new attorneys as well as an additional area of practice for attorneys experienced in other areas of law, but unfamiliar with the guardianship practice.
VLP trainings are offered free of charge to active volunteers. Please see the VLP Training Policy.
You may register for this training online at http://vlp.volunteerhub.com or by contacting Isabel Burney at VLP (see contact information above).
