This is a Bridge-the-Gap program designed for attorneys newly admitted to practice in the state of Illinois. It will be webcast live for Illinois attorneys, and be recorded for later viewing. While most of the subjects will be relevant and useful for attorneys newly admitted to practice in California, and the program will award California CLE credit, this program is meant primarily to serve newly-admitted Illinois attorneys who will be watching via webcast.

Why You Should Attend
Taught by a faculty of expert practitioners from varied practice areas, this program will help you to "bridge the gap" between your law school education and the real world skills and knowledge needed for success in law. Topics have been selected for their relevance and importance to legal practice, and to enable attendees to complete their first year Minimum Continuing Legal Education basic skills requirements for newly admitted attorneys (Illinois Supreme Court Rule 793).

What You Will Learn

  • Professional relationships - mentors and clients - and communication skills
  • How to interpret financial information and understanding accounting
  • Negotiation skills and the theory behind them
  • Pro bono and public interest volunteering
  • Ethical issues you need to know about

Full and partial scholarships to attend PLI's programs or view a webcast are available to legal aid and government attorneys, law professors, judges, judicial clerks, law students and employees of nonprofit organizations. Scholarship applications must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the program you wish to attend.
