The State Bar of California and Practising Law Institute is pleased to announce their latest pro bono programming on the Foreclosure Crisis, entitled: Redlining and Predatory Lending. Read the following description of this program below, which shares the recent California Reinvestment Coalition's report summarizing data analysis about predatory mortgage lending abuses.
Learn the types of predatory mortgage lending abuses that data analysis has revealed in California, and to inspire you to consider what types of work needs to be done in this arena, and the type of data analysis that will support predatory or unfair lending claims. You should also attend to learn how practitioners are applying federal and state laws to address these kinds of abuses.
What You Will Learn:
* Hear an analysis of predatory lending, concentrated foreclosures and other practices in 5 California cities drawn from the California Reinvestment Coalition's recent report
* See how these communities have been impacted by the financial institution practices, predatory home loans and subsequent defaults
* Utilization of data analysis to support predatory or unfair lending claims
* Understand key legal claims and strategies to effectively litigate predatory mortgage lending cases
* Use Fair Housing Act and other civil rights claims to address abusive lending practices
Practitioners new to the subject area will benefit from this overview, as well as practitioners interested in learning what some of the more recent data analysis reveals about predatory mortgage lending, and how existing federal and state laws can be applied to address those abuses.
Be sure to register for this free pro bono program now and then apply what you learn to help those affected by redlining and predatory lending.
