The Lawyers Fostering Independence program arranges pro bono civil legal representation for youth who have aged out of the foster care system.

This annual CLE will include two sessions. The morning session will focus on representing former foster youth. Speakers and a panel will address understanding how aging out of the foster system affects a young person, improving communication and the attorney-client relationship, and avoiding issues under the RPCs when representing youth. The afternoon session will train pro bono attorneys to take cases involving (1) parenting plans, (2) benefits from the Divisionof Developmental Disabilities, and (3) unpaid restitution and revoked driver's licenses.

Attorneys are welcome to attend the entire day or just come to the trainings that interest them.

 • CLE Credit Comments: CLE credits are free for attorneys who take a case from the LFI program by 12/31/2010. The cost for attorneys who do not take an LFI case is $100 for the whole day or $20 per CLE credit. All attendees are invited to donate $10 to help cover the cost of lunch and CLE materials.
