Appleseed's push for social justice and equality is rooted in the commitment of our pro bono volunteers - a commitment that is, unfortunately, far less extensive in other countries. Seeking to correct this situation, Mexico Appleseed has worked since its inception to cultivate a pro bono culture in support of underrepresented individuals and communities south of the border.

To further that effort, Appleseed, in partnership with the Embassy of Mexico, will convene a panel of distinguished experts on April 1 to discuss the project's history, importance, and the challenges ahead. Held at American University's Washington College of Law, the discussion, titled "Creating a Pro Bono and Philanthropic Culture in Mexico," will offer the following:
- An overview of pro bono efforts in Mexico and Latin America;

- Historical and cross-cultural perspectives on the development of a pro bono culture in the Americas; and

- An examination of the importance of pro bono legal support in Mexico's social development and challenges.

The panel will be followed by a special evening reception at the Mexican Cultural Institute. All are welcome!

To date, Mexico Appleseed's principal focus has been the establishment of the "Mexican Pro Bono Network," a network of lawyers, firms, and corporations that provide pro bono legal support to projects of high social importance. The Center strives to ensure that this network of pro bono volunteers is leveraged to support the development of community and civil society organizations, while at the same time offering methods for operationalizing pro bono commitment within Mexican firms.
