This training is required for Attorneys and Law Students who will be volunteering for the New York City Bankruptcy Assistance Project of Legal Services for New York City. Prior bankruptcy experience is not necessary. Attendees will be oriented to bankruptcy practice from the debtor's perspective, with a focus on assessing new bankruptcy cases and preparing them for filing. The class will train attendees to spot bankruptcy "red flags," and to direct clients in the gathering of documents and in how to represent themselves at the Meeting of Creditors. The training will include extensive hands-on exercises in the preparation of bankruptcy petitions, schedules, Statement of Financial Affairs, and other supporting documents.

IN EXCHANGE FOR THIS FREE TRAINING, ATTORNEYS AND STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO HANDLE AT LEAST 3 BANKRUPTCY PETITIONS IN THE 6 MONTHS FOLLOWING THE TRAINING-approximately 16 hours of work.
