MFY Legal Services and Custody/Guardianship Law: An Introduction to the Kinship Caregiver Law Project and a Substantive Training on Custody and Guardianship for Non-Parents

Description of Session: In New York City, over 300,000 children are cared for by grandparents or other relatives. In many cases, these children have been with a relative caregiver from birth. In June 2006, MFY launched the Kinship Caregiver Law Project, an initiative to help bring greater permanency in the lives of children who are being raised by their grandparents or other relatives by connecting families that provide kinship care with pro bono private attorneys to represent them in custody, guardianship, and adoption matters. The goal of the project is to help stabilize families, promote children's security, and help prevent children from entering the foster care system.

MFY will present substantive training related to Custody and Guardianship of children by non-parents. Please note this training does not provide CLE credit.
