This training will introduce you to basic medical research tools (print and internet). We will explore how to evaluate medical information; how to analyze your case; and how to develop evidence on medical issues. The goal is to increase your comfort level when presented with medical issues and give you a groundwork for your advocacy. Case examples, sample medical documents and role plays will focus on establishing medical exemptions to welfare work requirements. This training will also be useful to advocates who encounter medical issues in SSI and Social Security Disability hearings, health law, education law, housing advocacy, and the many other areas of our practice where medical issues may give rise to defenses or legal claims. Trainer: Susan Sternberg, Staff Attorney, Civil Benefits
