Thousands of victims of domestic violence seek Civil Protection Orders (CPOs) each year and only a small percentage of them are able to obtain legal representation. This program is designed to prepare attorneys to represent domestic violence victims pro bono in CPO cases and actions to modify and enforce CPOs in D.C. Superior Court. Staff from WEAVE will provide an overview of the relevant law and procedures. A comprehensive 170-page litigation manual that includes step-by-step guidance, including sample forms, fact investigation tips, sample direct examinations, and background readings will be available for purchase. Training participants are asked to commit to accept at least one pro bono case referral or to staff two of WEAVE's walk-in legal clinics in the course of a year.
