Partners at three large New York City firms with experience in doing pro bono work in federal court, along with two federal court judges, will discuss the basics of handling a federal court case as part of the SDNY's Pro Bono Panel. Focus is on prisoner civil rights cases, but info is applicable to all federal cases.

Topics to be covereed are: Pleadings, Contacting your Client, Discovery, Dispositive Motions, Pre-Trial Conferences, Settlements, Trial Preparation, and Trial Practice. Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Local Rules of SDNY, Individual Judge's Practice Rules and Rules of the Pro Bono Panel will be referenced. Materials will be distributed at the program.
