This training is required for attorneys who will be volunteering for the New York City Bankruptcy Assistance Project of Legal Services for New York City. Prior bankruptcy experience is not necessary. Attendees will be oriented to bankruptcy practice from the debtor's perspective, with a focus on assessing new bankruptcy cases and preparing them for filing.

The first part of the training, teaches attendees to screen and assess debtors for bankruptcy. The second part of the training teaches attendees to prepare the bankruptcy petitions.

LUNCH INCLUDED.

ATTORNEYS ARE EXPECTED TO HANDLE AT LEAST 3 BANKRUPTCY PETITIONS IN THE 6 MONTHS FOLLOWING THE TRAINING-approximately 16 hours of work.

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE BANKRUPTCY PRACTICE AREA TO REGISTER FOR THE CLASS.

  • CLE Credit Comments:

    Class participants will receive 4.75 hours CLE credit in Legal Skills, and .75 hours credit in Ethics.

    In addition, pro bono attorneys who go on to prepare bankruptcy petitions through the program can receive up to 6 hours of CLE credit for pro bono work, at the rate of 1 hour of CLE credit for every 6 hours of pro bono work performed.
