VLSP's annual LIVE eviction defense training teaches the basics of representing low-income tenants who are facing eviction. This program is a great way to gain courtroom and litigation experience. A commitment to take at least two pro bono cases within the next year of the training is required to attend. Immediately following the training, participants may select their first case. Participants must be licensed with the California State Bar and have active status, or be an emeritus attorney, at the time of the training. Volunteer application must be submitted in order to register for the training.Registration will close at noon the day of the training.

VLSP's Eviction Defense Project assists low income clients facing eviction in San Francisco. VLSP works with many of the tenant advocacy groups in San Francisco, including the Housing Rights Committee and the Eviction Defense Collaborative. Eviction prevention and defense is a meaningful way to prevent homelessness in San Francisco. This project is a great opportunity for volunteer attorneys to step in and assist individuals and families who are often on the brink of homelessness. All discovery tools are made available, so this is a great way to gain experience in depositions and in preparing discovery requests and motions.

VLSP provides malpractice insurance for these cases; training is free and mentors are available. Volunteers commit to provide representation to two clients within the training year. New and experienced attorneys from all areas of practice are welcome to volunteer with this project.
