Organization Description:
The mission of the Los Angeles County Bar Association is to meet the professional needs of Los Angeles lawyers and advance the administration of justice.
We make a difference in the greater Los Angeles community by supporting major legal services programs, such as Public Counsel and the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, as well as our own projects to provide free legal services to thousands of people each year. LACBA provides legal services to indigent clients. It serves those needing counseling and legal assistance for immigration and citizenship problems, AIDS and HIV-related legal matters, and provides direct legal services preparing restraining orders and legal counseling for victims of domestic violence.
Pro Bono Projects Description:
The LACBA has provided direct one on one pro bono legal representation to thousands of people living with HIV and AIDS (see www.lacba.org/aids). LACBA also coordinates a law student pro bono program with UCLA Law School that focuses on legal education and prevention. The Domestic Violence Project offers pro bono opportunities for attorneys and law students (see www.lacba.org/domestic_vioilence). Volunteer lawyers and law students work directly with clients who come into the Immigration project on a walk-in basis (see www.lacba.org/ilap). LACBA Dispute Resolution Services (DRS) provides community, youth and school peer mediation services throughout Los Angeles County, and offers a range of mediation and conflict resolution training courses to lawyers, laypersons and youth, who are then able to provide pro bono services.`
