Legal Aid of Marin has the mission of improving social justice, economic equity and opportunity, assuring due process and equal protection of the law by providing low income and vulnerable people (children, seniors, immigrants, people with disabilities, and the homeless) with access to high quality, effective legal services including direct representation and pro per support services, and through impact advocacy.

Pro Bono Project Description:

Pro Bono Program: LAM relies on the support of many private attorneys that donate time and resources to assist our clients when our limited resources are over stretched. In 2008 and 2009, our volunteers donated over 5000 pro bono hours.
 

Senior Advice Appointments:
Legal Aid of Marin also continues to provide a pro bono attorney every Thursday afternoon for 3 hours at Whistlestop Senior Center in San Rafael, where seniors are assisted with a variety of legal problems. A similar pro bono clinic takes place every other Thursday at the Mill Valley Community Center.

Community Outreach:
Pro bono attorneys make advanced health care directive presentations to clients at senior facilities throughout Marin.

Prisoner Services:
In house pro bono attorney, Jean Bordon, who has won a Wiley Manuel Award every year since 1995, averages about 500 hours per year, for assisting prisoners and their families with legal issues.

Bankruptcy Information and Advice:

Once per month a bankruptcy attorney meets with clients in a group to provide advice and answer questions.

Labor and Employment Law:
Twice per month employment law attorneys meet with clients for individual consultations regarding wage & hour, discrimination and other labor issues.

General Advice Clinic:
Once per week a different attorney meets with clients that have legal issues in that attorney's area of expertise.

Individual Pro Bono Representation:

When determined by our legal team some clients are referred to attorneys for more in depth representation in that attorney's field of expertise.

UD Settlement Conferences

Volunteer attorneys needed 1st and 3rd Thursday to work with parties to resolve UD cases during the week before trial. Contact Nancy Murphy for training opportunities.
