Organization Description

LACLJ fights for the rights of families whose lives are being impacted by difficult legal and crisis

situations. LACLJ’s holistic legal services model – offering personalized legal representation,

education, and supportive services – focuses on ensuring safety and success beyond the

courtroom. Building on our experience with these individual families, we advocate for

widespread change to improve the lives of low-income families in California.

Pro Bono Project Description:

ADVOCATE:

Attorneys willing to represent clients in restraining order cases can gain valuable trial

experience while helping to empower survivors of domestic violence. Restraining order

hearings are generally concluded within three to four weeks and are conducted as short trials,

with the opportunity to present opening arguments, examine witnesses, submit evidence

and present closing arguments. LACLJ provides full administrative and substantive support for

ADVOCATE cases, including providing meeting space and translation services for non-English

speaking clients as well as mentoring by an experienced family law attorney. To learn more,

contact LACLJ's Pro Bono Supervisor at probono@laclj.org or (323) 980-3500 x 14.
